One (and by far the largest) of the Successor States that followed the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991. After a decade of deep economical issues, years 2000 mark the return of Russia as a global actor. Under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, armed forces of Russia were reorganized, and major reequipment programs are underway.
