This type of radar is used to determine the altitude of an air contact. It is a 2D system that finds range and altitude. It will not provide azimuth information. For this reason it is usually paired up with a 2D search radar. Example would be the Side Net height finder being paired up with the Flat Face 2D search radar for early Soviet SA-3 SAM sites.
