The Kommando Heer is the high command of the German Army of the Bundeswehr. It is also the staff of the Inspector of the Army, the Army's highest officer.

The 1. Panzerdivision is the last division of the German army similar in size and strength the armored divisions of the cold war. It is last mechanized division of the Bundeswehr and has a strength of around 18000 men. The division is equipped and trained for high intensity combat operations against militarily organized enemies as well as peacekeeping missions.

The brigade has become the 'showcase of the German Army' as a result of its German Army Combat Vehicle and Aircraft Demonstration Exercises. These exercises demonstrate the capability of the Army's fighting vehicles and aircraft and how they operate jointly in various scenarios. The Unit is 5000 men strong and is also involved in the development of armoured warfare concepts and tries out new weapons systems, equipment and tactics as a trials brigade.
