The AV-8B Harrier II is a STOVL or Short Take-Off Vertical Landing or VTOL Vertical TakeOff or Landing attack jet in service with the United States Marine Corps jointly developed by the United Kingdom and The United States of America. It also now sees service with the Italian and Spanish navies. Typically operated from helicopter carriers the AV-8B Has proven a valuable asset in the inventories of armed forces, seeing action in Operation: Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, it has also seen action in 2009 in Operation: Odyssey Dawn. The AV-8B is expected to be eventually phased out by the F-35B Lightning II in the timeline of 2025-2030 although retirement date has changed through the years.
