A category of weapon type in the Command model.
A Bomb is a container that typically contains a high explosive and a fuse. A bomb generally does not have a guidance system nor propulsion, and is usually dropped by a fixed wing aircraft over its target. Target damage is cause by blast, heat, and fragmentation.
Numerous variations are found in the bomb category. Bombs may contain atomic or nuclear explosives. Bombs may have casings that enhance fragmentation damage. Bombs contents may be incendiery, chemical, biological, or even propaganda leaflets. Some bombs, known as "Cluster Bombs", disperse smaller bombs, known as "Bomblets". These are effective for area-denial, anti-personnel, and anti-vehicle purposes.
A group of bombs, known as "Smart Bombs", have a sensor and guidance system which control fins to accurately strike the target in the descent. Bombs may be constructed to be armor piercing or to penetrate buried and reinforced structures, and runways. Such penetrators may be rocket-assisted to enhance penetration, but this is not considered a propulsion system in Command. In Command, weapons with both guidance and propulsion systems are categorized as "Guided Weapons".
Command distinguishes the weapon types into:
