OPERATION FLAMING MOSES

Operation Dagger Codename for Operation "Flaming Moses" which is much more relevant. The objective is to close the Suez canal for a certain duration.

Operational Objectives

Background research

The Suez Canal (Arabic: قناة السويس‎ Qanāt al-Sūwais) is an artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Opened in November 1869 after 10 years of construction work, it allows ship transport between Europe and Asia without navigation around Africa. The northern terminus is Port Said and the southern terminus is Port Tawfiq at the city of Suez. Ismailia lies on its west bank, 3 km (1.9 mi) from the half-way point.

The canal allows passage of ships up to 20 m (66 ft) draft or 240,000 deadweight tons and up to a maximum height of 68 m (223 ft) above water level and a maximum beam of 77.5 m (254 ft) under certain conditions. The Suez Canal can handle more ship traffic and larger ships than the Panama Canal. Some supertankers are too large to traverse the canal. Others can offload part of their cargo onto a canal-owned boat to reduce their draft, transit, and reload at the other end of the canal.

Typically, it takes a ship from 12 to 16 hours to transit the canal. In 24 hours the canal can pass about 76 standard ships.

Global objective

The objective is to sabotage the ship once it's inside the canal. The damages to the structure have to be important enough to allow the oil to completely flow into the canal and the ship to sink so it's obstructs the passage.

Allocated means

1x Suezmax tanker (fully loaded)

Location

The exact location of the strike is still to be determined

Expected results from the achievement of the mission

Closure of the canal for a couple of weeks if not months the time for the Egyptian authorities to drag the ship wreck and remove the 120,000 tons of petrol. Causing massive price increase of petrol barrils for both Europe and the US.
