Spetnaz is the Russian acronym for Special Forces. In the USSR times, Spetnaz were drawn among the most motivated conscripts, with missions ranging from VIP and critical weapons' elimination to more traditional special forces' tasks. In modern Russia, Spetnaz are a professional elite force, subordinated to the GRU, Russian military intelligence agency. They've seen action in Chechnya, Georgia and more recently, Ukraine.
